Missions form the basis of what we do as Christians, and the same applies to our church family. We are very blessed to be called by God to be active in so many things. Listed below are just some of our mission activities. We generally offer a mission opportunity each month, so please call us to find out how to join us.
Taking part of our local community is important to us here at First
Presbyterian Church Of Garner. We have experienced the grace of God as
we have been able to assist others who are in need.
Garner Area Ministries (GAM) -- Garner
Area Ministries is a thrift shop that also provides financial
assistance, a clothes closet and food
pantry to those in need. The thrift shop is open to the
public. This ministry is supported by local area churches as well
as
individual donors. Garner Area Ministries accepts donations of food,
clothes, and money on a regular basis. They are open Mondays,
Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9AM - 12 PM. For more information, please
call them at 772-9100.
Fellowship Actions Improving the
Habitat (FAITH)
-- The
FAITH
program is aimed at bringing together religious communities with The
North Carolina Wildlife Federation (NCWF). This is one of our
newest missions but we have plenty of projects in mind that will
encourage stewardship of our local wildlife. Currently, we are
planning a butterfly garden.
Habitat for Humanity -- We
typically serve one Saturday per month (more
in the summers) at one of the local sites. Habitat is always in need of
volunteers and supplies for the work sites as well as for the Re-Use
Center. For more information, please check out their website.
Raleigh Rescue Mission --
This is a local organization which
provides
housing, meals, and educational opportunities for our homeless brothers
and sisters. Please check out their website for
more information.
Appalachia Service
Project -- ASP has been a
part of our family for a few years now.
Through this program we have been able to serve the Appalachia
communities of West Virginia, Tennessee, and Kentucky. This is a
wonderful way for folks to make a meaningful impact in a short period
of time.
Disaster Assistance -- Our
congregation responds to natural disasters
by taking up a collection, serving in the damaged communities, and by
sending Disaster Response Kits.
Mosquito Netting Project --
Our ladies circles have worked hard to help defeat malaria and other
diseases in Africa by purchasing bed nets. The netting (treated
with insecticides) is used to protect people from mosquito bites as
they sleep.
The Rotary Club's Million Meals
Project -- In conjuction with Stop Hunger Now, our youth helped
package a million meals to be sent to Bolivia. To learn more
about the project visit the Stop Hunger Now
web site.
